Use Texture to Give a Neutral Room Character
A neutral room can feel varied through the surfaces it contains. Woven fabric, smooth ceramic and natural wood catch light differently even when their colours are close. Begin by noticing the materials already present before adding more.
Choose one area to work on, such as a chair and a nearby table. A textile or a useful object may provide enough contrast. Too many competing textures can make a small space feel busy rather than considered.

Look at the arrangement at different times of day. A surface that appears soft in morning light may seem very different under an evening lamp. Practical qualities matter too: objects should suit how the room is used and cleaned.
Leave some surfaces simple so that the differences remain visible. Character develops through a few deliberate choices and familiar objects. A room does not need to display every material associated with a particular decorating style.
